One of our most loved cross-training classes at Body & Pole is CoreAerial. We took a moment to speak with B&P instructor Viveca Williams, to learn more about the benefits of this awesome class!

“CoreAerial was created to help strengthen the hamstrings, glutes, abdominal,
shoulder, lower and upper back muscles of aerial and pole athletes. A large portion of
strengthening is done with an aerial hammock, but therabands and blocks are also incorporated into the training. Though the foundation of the class is built around 8-10 staple moves, each instructor’s style of teaching reflects their own personal background experiences with movement.

Although created to help strengthen, it is also a great class to rehabilitate after injuries because exercises focus on training the stabilizer muscles. What I love about CoreAerial is that it can be as challenging as each person needs it to be. The class is an open level class, so we have a wide range of participants, everything from first timers who have never done anything aerial related, to regulars who come several times a week. To see people progress and accomplish things that they have been struggling with is inspiring. When the light comes on and a student is able to achieve an exercise that has been difficult for them, they feel it! The connection within the body starts to make sense.

There are several things I love about CoreAerial. Each of the exercises has a specific purpose, so for me, it’s difficult to call one my favorite! I love the experience of watching my students grow. It makes me proud to know they are getting stronger, feeling more confident in class, and to see that confidence transcend over into their apparatus concentration. Even students who don’t train an apparatus experience significant gains in strength, stabilization, and coordination. I definitely recommend CoreAerial for any aerialist as injury prevention, and for anyone who’s looking to add more excitement to their workouts!”
