Curious about the Body & Pole Teacher Training program? Our three-month immersive program offers 130+ hours of teacher training led by Body & Pole’s world-class instructors, mentorships, unlimited classes and is punctuated by elevatED Pole Level 1 and Level 2 trainings. We designed this program for anyone ready to seriously level-up their teaching and their practice — aspiring teachers and those who simply want to commit further and deepen their pole experience.

Take a peek behind the scenes of our Teacher Training program with our current student, Katrina Currow, who joined the Spring 2025 program:

How did you hear about the Teacher Training program at Body & Pole?

I first heard about the Teacher Training program from my friend Kyra [Body & Pole’s CEO] —we’ve known each other for 20 years through the dance world! It’s amazing how pole dance, aerial arts, and all the arts keep us connected in so many ways.

When I mentioned I was moving back to NYC, she told me about the program. I took some time to think it over, and she really walked me through everything, making sure it was the right fit for me. Her support and insight played a big part in my decision to join, and I’m so grateful for that little nudge in the right direction!

What inspired you to ultimately sign up?

Pole dance has given me so much—an extension of my dance career, a new set of skills, a community of incredible people, and a confidence I didn’t have before. I want to offer that same experience to others!

I knew I had the tools to start teaching, but I didn’t yet have the knowledge to create a fluid, well-structured class. I wanted to learn how to break things down in a way that makes pole accessible, safe, and fun for everyone—whether it’s their first time or their hundredth.

My dance journey started with ballet, where you begin at the barre with pliés and gradually build from there. I wanted to learn how to bring that same kind of structured progression into my pole teaching, making it less intimidating and more exciting for students.

What do you hope to accomplish during the program?

I want to come out of this program feeling confident in my ability to lead a class that’s engaging, effective, and welcoming. Learning how to break down movements so that they’re both safe and fun is a big goal for me. I want my students to feel strong, inspired, and excited about their progress.

Beyond technique, I also want to foster an inclusive and encouraging environment. I hope to develop my own teaching style—one that reflects my dance background but also brings in the playfulness and creativity that make pole so special.

Ultimately, I want to leave this program knowing I can guide students on their own pole journey, helping them build strength, confidence, and a deep love for the art.

Now that you’ve started, is the program what you thought it would be? Did anything surprise you?

It was everything I hoped for—and so much more! I expected to learn how to cue movements and structure a class, but I didn’t realize just how much thought goes into every little detail of teaching.

One of the biggest surprises was how much I learned about myself in the process. Teaching isn’t just about knowing the material; it’s about finding your own voice and learning how to connect with students in a way that resonates with them.

I also didn’t expect just how much support I’d get from my mentors and fellow trainees. The sense of community was incredible, and it really reinforced for me that pole dance isn’t just about technique—it’s about confidence, connection, and lifting each other up (sometimes literally!).

This program exceeded my expectations in every way. It gave me the tools I needed, but it also helped me grow in ways I never anticipated.

What words of advice do you have for anyone considering the Teacher Training program at Body & Pole?

Have a plan, but be open to that plan evolving as you make new discoveries throughout the program. This experience will challenge and shape you in ways you might not expect, so embrace the learning process.

Use the rental space and private lessons—they’re absolute game-changers. Practicing with friends in the rental space helped me refine my teaching style and feel more prepared. And don’t be afraid to ask questions! The mentors and instructors are incredibly generous with their knowledge. Take advantage of that support—it’s there for a reason!

Also, one of the best pieces of advice I got early on: Recovery is part of the training. It’s so tempting to take every class and push yourself 24/7, but your body needs rest—especially when you’re learning new and challenging things. Give yourself permission to recover, both physically and mentally. I admit, this can be easier said than done:)

Most importantly, trust yourself and enjoy the ride. You’re going to grow so much—not just as a teacher, but as a pole dancer and as a person. It’s a journey worth taking!
