With the first ever Body & Pole Work-study Showcase coming up, we asked Irmingard Mayer, our work-study manager, what inspired the showcase and what we can expect to see.

The work-study program at Body & Pole is one of the most valued and essential facets of our studio. Our work-studies do far more than just check students into classes. They handle all of the front desk communication, rig and clean the rooms, as well as open and close the studio. This is no easy task considering that Body & Pole employs over 60 instructors that teach 200 classes every week!

It’s obvious that we have high expectations for our work-studies, but we also have high expectations for work-study program. We aim to provide an experience that inspires life-changing personal and professional growth in addition to their studio training. Graduates of the program have become Body & Pole instructors, launched internationally-touring careers, won competitions, and starred in popular aerial productions. As a former work-study myself, (I graduated in 2014) I am now a Body & Pole instructor and the work-study manager.

Kyra Johannesen, the owner of Body & Pole, participated in a work-study program as a young dancer herself that changed her life as a dancer and choreographer. That is why she is so passionate about the work-study program, and we why we are so excited to hold our first work-study showcase.

The B&P Homecoming Extravaganza: A Work-Study Alumni Showcase will include an array of concepts, apparatuses, and graduation years. The topics range from comedic acts to dramatic pieces to social commentary. We seek to highlight the diversity of apparatuses and the talents of the graduates. Of course, there will be complimentary wine, a photo booth, and a few surprises thrown in there!

Body & Pole hopes to see the work-study program continue to evolve and are confident that it will, as long as passionate and driven aerialists continue to apply and graduate from the program. Whatever dreams our work-studies may have, Body & Pole aims to provide the tools and support to make it happen. Check out this playlist to jam the way our work-studies do!

The Showcase will be held at Body & Pole on June 18th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here or at the front desk.
