We all waited anxiously for “The Greatest Showman” to hit theaters this month, and we are delighted to say the film is captivating! It’s thrilling to see circus represented on the silver screen and enthralling the general public who until now, knew little of aerial arts beyond Vegas visits to a Cirque du Soleil show. While true circus buffs may raise an eyebrow to historical accuracy, the film’s choreography and circus skills do not disappoint.

the-greatest-showman-blog-3The aerial/circus coordinator and choreographer (duet “Re-write the Stars”) for the film was none other than Body & Pole’s own aerial instructor, Mathieu Leopold. Founder of Aerial Culture, a modern circus and fitness lifestyle brand, Aerial Culture’s focus is and has always been to strengthen, empower, and inspire the aerial and circus entertainment and educational industry standard. What more appropriate stage to further this mission than a major motion picture.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Willams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya, “The Greatest Showman” is an original musical inspired by the life of P.T. Barnum, and the rise of the Barnum & Bailey Circus. This timely production hit theaters just seven months after Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey gave their final closing show, the last of the “Greatest Show on Earth.”

the-greatest-showman-blog-2The essence of Barnum’s vision has found new life and method through the film “The Greatest Showman,” which has captured the imaginations of audiences and media sources alike, heralding stellar reviews and in-depth features of the production. The September issue of Vogue magazine showcased a sumptuous spread of stunning images by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, and gave deferent nods to Mathieu for his choreography and circus coordination. The popular online magazine “Bustle” interviewed Mathieu about his role choreographing the circus duo for Zendayaand Efron as part of a rave review.

Now that the film has been released, we are thrilled to have Mathieu back at Body & Pole, bringing his keen focus on technique, artistry, and quality training to the classroom. You can catch his classes on the schedule:
